Dr. Wilson's journey is a testament to her adaptability and commitment to excellence. Originally hailing from Florida, her upbringing was marked by the nomadic lifestyle typical of a military family. Her educational odyssey began in Stuttgart, Germany, where she not only absorbed the language but also cultivated a global outlook.
Upon her family's return to Florida, Dr. Wilson completed her formative years at Marianna High School before embarking on her academic pursuits at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. There, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Pre-Medicine, laying the groundwork for her future endeavors in healthcare.
Determined to expand her horizons, Dr. Wilson seized opportunities beyond the classroom. She immersed herself in the enriching environment of the Tulane School of Medicine's MedREP program in New Orleans, further fueling her passion for dental medicine. This led her to Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry, where she obtained her dental degree in 1995.
Dr. Wilson's thirst for knowledge and commitment to service took her to the corners of the country. Following her residency at Dade County Dental Research Clinic in Miami, she answered the call of duty as a dental officer with the United States Public Health Service. Her tenure included a remarkable assignment in Kotzebue, Alaska, where she earned acclaim for her dedication to underserved communities, exemplified by her receipt of the Isolated Hardship Award.
Transitioning to the United States Coast Guard, Dr. Wilson continued her pursuit of excellence, earning a Master of Public Health degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School while serving at ISC Portsmouth, Virginia. Her outstanding contributions were recognized with the Commandant's Award of Excellence, a testament to her unwavering commitment to duty.
In 2005, Dr. Wilson embarked on a new chapter by establishing Wilson Dental Group, PLLC, where her expertise and dedication to patient care shine brightly. A trailblazer in her field, she has continued to push boundaries, completing a forensic dentistry program at McGill University Faculty of Dentistry in Montreal, Canada, and earning induction as a fellow of the American College of Dentists in 2015.
Dr. Wilson's influence extends beyond the dental chair, as evidenced by her notable publications and leadership roles within professional organizations. Her commitment to mentorship and advocacy is exemplified through her presidency of various dental societies, including the Peter B. Ramsey Dental Society and The Old Dominion Dental Society.
Currently serving as President Elect for the Alabama Dental Society and as the dental director for the Medical Advocacy and Outreach Dental Clinic in Montgomery, Alabama, Dr. Wilson continues to make a profound impact on the dental profession and the communities she serves. Her latest book, "Black Women Dentists: Inspired, Determined, and Beautiful," is a testament to her dedication to empowering underrepresented voices in dentistry and beyond. Dr. Wilson's journey is a testament to her resilience, compassion, and unwavering commitment to excellence in oral healthcare.
